improving your search engine rankings with a press release — Vol. 3 In our ongoing efforts to continually improve your search engine rankings, DDA would like to suggest that you consider writing and distributing an online press release. It can be easy and promotionally valuable well beyond the number of people that might actually see it. Here's why; by writing a press release and submitting it to online newswire services you seed the release to various places on the Internet. If you have embedded a link to your website in the press release, Google will interpret that link as a popularity vote and as a result your Google PageRank score will improve. If you embedded a link in the press release that contains one of your major keywords in it the benefit will be magnified. PageRank is Google's way of deciding a page's importance. PageRank is a numeric value that represents how important a page is on the web. Google figures that when one page links to another page, it is effectively casting a vote for the other page. The more votes that are cast for a page, the more important the page must be. Your website's pagerank combined with the content and DDA's ongoing optimization efforts determines where your website will rank when keywords are searched that relate to your product or service. First, you need to find a story that is worth reading about. Has your company added new products, employees, or events recently? Have you done a promotion that is out of the ordinary or held a charitable event lately? These are always good topics that will gain the reader's interest and make the reader want to hear about your company. To start writing your press release, there are a few basic components. Think of a headline that will grab attention. The headline is the single most important part of the story. It needs to initially get the viewer's attention and make them want to continue on to the next paragraph. After the headline is ready, next is the lead paragraph. The lead paragraph should answer the headline. It should tell the entire story about 50 words or less, try to keep it short and to the point. Listed under your headline should be your contact information. This includes your company name, contact name, address, telephone number, fax number, email address and website URL. You should also be sure to include your name, phone number and website address at the end of your release. Next are the Main Paragraphs. These should fill out your story. The most important information should appear first and then the less important supporting information should follow. If your press release is about a new product release, we recommend the use of bulleted points. Send your press release to the online and traditional offline media that covers stories in your industry. Avoid sending your release to media that have no interest in your story, this may label you as a spammer. Your future releases may just be deleted on site if you are thought of that way. Several trade and industry publications publish news stories in your industry. These magazines are very interested in receiving interesting information filled stories about your company, employees and products. They usually have special sections pertaining to those matter and need stories to fill them. There are many internet press release distribution
websites including: www.prweb.com,
www.pressreleasenetwork.com
and www.internetnewsbureau.com. Lastly is the conclusion to your press release. This should summarize the entire article and reiterate the headline. Don't forget to archive your press release on your website. Press releases can serve a dual purpose, they can provide news about your company as well as provide keyword rich content for your website. Press releases can help your business reach new customers. Be sure to send out your company's press release today!
