Sony Corporation has turned to online tutorials via the Internet as its latest marketing strategy. A couple of years ago, the company initiated its first online course, which gave students the in on digital photography. Since then, Sony has expanded by adding three more online courses, dealing with home entertainment, personal computing, and small business solutions.
These tutorials are known as "Sony 101" and give website users a chance to browse Sony products while learning about a particular subject. The large electronics company has partnered with several companies as a means to promote this new marketing strategy. For instance, Sony and Powered Inc. teamed up to try and come up with several ideas for courses for Sony.
Since the creation of the four courses, the results have been phenomenal. Studies show that more than 90% of its customers favor Sony. In addition, these same studies show that 60% of the website users are brand-loyal to Sony. Therefore, online students are more likely to buy a product they learn about, especially if it comes from Sony.
The success gained thus far in the game has caused Sony to further expand this marketing strategy. Sony recently partnered up with I-Village, a company that offers educational information pertaining to women, and started several online tutorials. More than 15% of online users, who took a Sony-sponsored online course from I-Village, resulted in buying a Sony product. As long as sales are continually boosting, Sony hopes to partner with several other companies to produce more online clases.
